HOCUS POCUS FOCUS ft. Tabatha McGurr, Sophie Paris & Fashionista
Yeah I know the title of this post sounds kind of lame, but I got it from A-ron Bondaroff’s I-D interview (I loved the Off Off Bowery expo at Colette last month).
It reminded me of Lil’ KNOTORYUS credo, which is “Hocus. Pocus. Spast.”
So I’m guessing between the mantra of a 3 and a 1/2 year old who’s ready to conquer the world and that of a 40 year old who lost almost everything and aNYthing but got up and wrecked shit there should be some kind of lesson to learn.
This is a KNOTORYUS salute to the young’uns stepping out of their comfort zone.
Sophie is this jeune fille I got to know at MTV. I was a senior producer, she was a part-time receptionist.
We bonded over our mutual love for moving images & the City of Lights. I dubbed her Sophie Paris because “Sophie who keeps misplacing the front desk phone” isn’t really a name for upcoming talent. ( Although her wandering through the halls asking us to call reception so she could trace her receiver was kind of hilarious. It got even better when somebody went “Ok, so what number should we dial?” and she’d go: “Eerrmm. Fuck if I know.”)
She kept telling me she wanted to act, direct & produce. So she went on and applied for various producer positions. And when the big corporations kept saying no, she did what she had to : Do. Go.
A couple of weeks ago she sent me a mail :
“Hey Dominique, tomorrow I start shooting my first film and I’m pretty excited.”
While I was in Tokyo, I got a second message :
“I had the best time! Here are a few stills.”
And what about this kid?
If you didn’t know, this is Tabatha McGurr.
She is one of my favourite writers and definitely my favourite blogger.
Somebody should give her a life long book deal & Tab Magazine should be edited at Tabatha Towers.
And although her best friend looks like everything your boyfriend thinks about every 3 seconds, she wasn’t phased when Leah McSweeney, head of MOB (& sister of said best friend), asked her to be their Holiday Cover Girl.
Nike ‘Just MOB It’ Dunks available tomorrow.
And this post made my day : “Dear you, I can break your face and still look like a lady”.
haha!
