EYECANDY SMÖRGASBORD feat. Burzum, Cutie Patootie, Sleigh Bells, Hercules & Love Affair, etc.
Pharrell Williams, Sleigh Bells and Norwegian black metal all have one thing in common.
Murder.
Trivia time!
What’s the connection between Pharrell and some Norwegian guy stabbing his best friend to death by jamming a knife in his skull (repeatedly)?
The Norwegian guy is Varg Vikernes, a.k.a. Count Grishnackh, also known as the founder of Burzum and, by extention, the co-founder of Norwegian Black Metal. In 1993, Varg stabbed his friend Euronymus to death in his flat. In 2009, he was released from jail. In 2011, he will be releasing his first official worldwide album. It’s called “Fallen” and has artwork by French painter Bouguereau on the cover. Here’s the link with Skateboard P. = Pharrell has a tattoo of Bouguereau’s angels on his neck.
If the story of Burzum interests you, I highly recommend the documentary ‘Until The Light Takes Us’, featuring lengthy in-jail interviews with Varg, Darkthrone and most living members of the so-called ‘Black Circle’.
Stereogum has the premiere of Burzum’s new single: ‘Vanvvid’ or ‘Lunacy’
This song makes me want to buy a convertible and drive my family towards sunny skies. Sleigh Bells obviously had something else in mind. (Murder.)

All this violence is corupting my eyeballs.
Let’s switch gears to something lighter.
Wolfram ft. Hercules & Love Affair – Fireworks is a vimeo clip inspired by YouTube fan videos. It’s meta-tastic.
Toro Y Moi is fun.
We end, as usual, with a funny one.
