I’m looking forward to seeing  Better Than Something, a documentary with and about Jay Reatard, much-missed punk music genius and all-round asshole.

Kanye & Jay-Z posted a new backstage video of the Watch the Throne video at VOYR. The stage is looking incredible, the Kanye quotes are finger-lickin’ pieces of out-of-context-food for haters and inspiration to the rest of us and Hova walks in to take a picture with a kid who shaved WTT in his hair. But the coolest moment for me was when Yeezy and Hova start making their way to the stage and the security walkie talkie crackles “Chi-Town is walking.” *Krrrgh* “New York is walking”.

“Long Gone”, a shameless belter from “1997″, the free ‘internet album’ by Terius ‘The Dream’ Nash  gets the video treatment. It’s mostly black and white posing with some girl and her cleavage. But it’s also a perfect excuse to profess my love for the entire album. The Dream wrote ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘Umbrella’ and regular lurkers and copy/pasters of this site already know how essential we deem his mixtapes to be. Everyone who says they love The Weeknd and don’t like The Dream needs to shut the hell up. Seriously.

As our (occasionally long-winded but always) observant friends from Pitchfork have already pointed out: there’s a lot of similarities between 1977 and ’808 and Heartbreak’ by Kanye West. Both plunge deep into the pains of love, bitter failure, stardom, sadness and generally losing your shit in public. Both lean towards pompous artwork and detailed, no-holds-barred lyrics. Both are in high rotation at the KNOTORYUS offices. Courageous shit. Anthems.

Trash Talk are releasing their New EP “Awake” on 10/11. This is the video for the title track and features skateboarding, politics; homeless people, rich white women by the pool and lots of wrecking stuff. They are without a doubt the band I have listened to the most in 2011.

Also, they remind me of the following parable: the Buddha is approached by one of his pupils, who asks him:

“Master, are you a God?”

The Buddha answers “No.”

The pupil then asks:

A couple of days ago after a hard day’s work I was about to take the elevator in my building when a 30 something woman suddenly yelled: “Stop! Don’t move! Stay right there!”

By the way she started to cut in front of me while I was trying to carry my groceries inside, I assumed all the ordering about was just because she wanted me to hold the door.

No ‘please’, no ‘thank you’ when I subsequently did.

How rude.

She then barked  which floor she was on (I pressed the button, I have to admit) and if things weren’t baffling enough, without looking me in the eyes, she then spoke the words :

“So you are here to clean our building…”

Really?

It took all my might and strength nottosmackabitch.

I reminded myself  that our condo’s a couple of floors above hers. Hence my 180° view of Brussels is better.

And I have a cleaning lady. Get your own.

Anyway.

This is what they came up with for one of the better cuts from Kanye and Jay’s ‘Watch The Throne’ album ‘No Church In The Wild’.

This kind of messes me up because I will be chilling in a mansion in France and I had to sign a no internet clause. Also I’m pretty sure they won’t be selling this album in the nearest (22 miles from where we’re at is what I’m told) supermarché…

It’s all good though. I’m happy with this little taste of what happened during the recording of the album.

+ It is hilarious/awkward/incredibly sweet that Kanye put a Parisian ring on Hov. And I love it that they’re namedropping my third celebrity male hero Russel Brand.
