$uicideboy$ are coming
$uicideboy$ are probably one of the fastest growing acts of 2017. I'm talking tens of millions of streams with zero mainstream radio play and most recently, they got the OG nod from down South when the duo produced almost all the songs on the new Juicy J Mixtape, "Highy Intoxicated", which includes a collaboration with A$AP Rocky.
$crim and Ruby DaCherry from New Orleans are mostly pigeon-holed into the 90's Horror/Satanic Rap Memphis sound and slapped with a 'sounds like Three 6 Mafia' label.
But several of their tracks betray influences from Hardcore and Thrash metal, with vocal stylings and lyrics that wouldn't sound out of place at, let's say, a Slayer gig.
Their most viewed video yet ('Paris', clocking a cool 37 million clicks to date) is a simple live performance edit on a skate ramp in front of a crowd of raging pimply white boys.
The newest mixtapes/soundcloud drops are rife with the struggle of mining their lives as drug and violence victims and social rejects to make songs and get money and fame. (Or in the signature imagery: what it's like to cut open a vein and start bleeding checks.)
Their newest VHS-style visuals were recorded in the home of Black Metal, Finland: still on the Satanic tip, but with a (pale and chilly) twist.
Anyway, the boy$ are coming to your town soon, with new tour dates announced almost daily. We'll be catching them at the Ghent show in February, thanks to our former neighbour Lefto, who's bringing them over for the "Red Bull Elektropedia Nights'.
