A year in style isn’t truly over till ‘All Gone’ calls it. The coveted print creation of Michael Dupouy, co-founder of independent communication agency La MJC, has made it to its twelfth issue and remains limited as ever. ‘All Gone: The Finest of Street Culture 2017’, published by La MJC, is another documentation for the ages of all the most sought-after streetwear items of the past year.
The new cover was dedicated to hip-hop jewellery. In the KNOTORYUS interview with Michael Dupouy, he explained the motivation behind his artwork choices: “Initially, I didn’t think the "All Gone" covers needed to be a collab. Just changing the colourways was enough. But I also notice that the more this world is in crisis, the more what we call street culture will counter-act and demand more patterns, colours. I feel like people are way more open-minded about the artwork, but it also forces me to make a more surprising cover every year."
The 2017 cover created by Paris illustrator Yoann Houlbert is a tribute to the Pen & Pixel Houston scene and the southern hip hop album covers that truly symbolise the 90s. Inspiration varied from Raekwon’s “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” EP to Master P’s “No Limit”, Eric B and Rakim, Scarface, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Biggie, Kurtis Blow, JAY-Z and Birdman.
You can also spy references to contemporary artist Luis Gispert and his gold chains on asphalt pieces on there. It’s all about the come-up, the opulent life. The book is also printed on silver-based paper, to get more lustre out of each piece depicted. There are three covers available, from black to cherry red and the ultimate golden version.
