Kim Petras Launches Another Pop Missile with the "Icy" Video
Kim Petras is in the business of unabashedly radio-friendly pop music - think Charli XCX worshipping a Paris Hilton shrine in an all-pink room somewhere in the Beverly Hills suburbs - and quickly amassed a worldwide base of ecstatic fans with her debut album “Clarity” this summer. Only a few months after that expertly guided pop missile, there’s a new album “Turn Off The Light”, aimed at the Halloween moment marketing machine. “Icy” is the newest single and video, featuring ice in all its poppiest forms: glitter, jewellery, ice baths, etc. Make no mistake, this is a ruthless attempt at a global pop stardom coup from an unlikely player, given her personal background as a trans woman, stitching together pop-clichés to create a Frankenstein-monster that has the choreography down to a tee, but always seems to be secretly eyeing the backstage door that says: “ESCAPE”.
