DEEWEE and LAIMA Announce Shapeshifting Album 'Home' (Listen)
‘Home’ by LAIMA is going to be a special record for multiple reasons. Here’s the title track:
First of all, the music and words themselves, in which LAIMA explores the liminal spaces we live in. We are always on the threshold of the next moment, the next destination, our next feeling or desire. But at the same time, we are coming from somewhere, we are carrying our previous and present selves with us.
From the press clippings: “Thematically it explores how the two core contrasts that inform Laima’s life can coexist. On one hand it’s about domesticity – her love for her family and her frustration with domestic routine. Yet on the other, it’s about her creativity – her desire to express herself artistically while still tending to her role as a mother and a housewife.”
What does that sound like? Well, the title track is reminiscent of Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman”: electronic / electrifying, ritualistic poetry. It’s both intimate and expansive. Beats are by Iggor Cavalera, production is by Stephen & David Dewaele. Can’t wait to hear the entire album.
And this is where the second part of ‘special’ comes in. This LP is being released as a double vinyl. One record contains the words. The other one has the music. You have to play them both simultaneously to hear them come together. The listener is always part of the music and no two listens are exactly the same. Yep, DEEWEE just invented the perennially shapeshifting concept album. The record is about always being two people at once, so the record is two records at once. Brilliant stuff.
