The Most Podcast - Episode 16: Marie Gomis-Trezise
A drive to showcase and promote artists who infuse their work with the richness and diversity of the lived experiences of Black and Brown people, of descendants of the diaspora. That’s what pushes Marie Gomis-Trezise, creative consultant, talent manager, founder and curator of standout young contemporary art gallery Galerie Number 8. Marie talks to host Dominique about the twisting road she followed growing up in Marseille to finding her people in London, Paris, Monaco, Nice and Senegal. She paints the picture of a career arc working her way up from P.A. to signing acts for major record labels, falling out of love with the music business and ultimately launching an online gallery platform when the digital tidal wave impacted every industry. Now Marie champions and fiercely protects the gifts of stellar international artists such as David Uzochukwu, Alexia Fiasco and Djeneba Aduayom as well as stellar talent Mous Lamrabat. She’s living proof how instinct (and sometimes just taking your significant other’s advice) can show you right where to go. Marie also talks being motivated by providing affordable art for younger generations, dealing with backlash and the excitement she feels for the talent (take note: sometimes an IG tag can land you a gallery) and future projects glistening ahead.
