Lustmord - the Word as Power
Listening to the music of Lustmord can be like brushing against
'a joy left blank'
a phrase I'm humbly borrowing from R.M. Rilke. (One of his other verses 'For beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror' also comes to mind.) The new
Lustmord
album on the 'Blackest Ever Black' label is called 'The Word as Power' and uses voices as sounds in themselves, without any literal meaning. One of these voices you'll recognise as Maynard James Keenan from Tool.
This preview of snippets alone is enough to blow every piece of crud that was clotting your brain straight out. Please don't listen to this on your tinny 'they-came-with-the-computer' speakers. Headphones on, people.
This is Lustmord live.
My first encounter with Lustmord was on his collaboration with
The Melvins
which is less of a monastery soundtrack and more of a running/workout soundtrack.
And since Maynard James Keenan from
Tool
is on the next album, this is a good excuse to dig up this 20-minute Lustmord remix of 'Schism'.
