For their sophomore collaboration with Fred Perry, launching February 4th, the proficient Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh of Art Comes First have cut out just the fit for you and me. After the success of their pop-up stores in London (where we were lucky enough to catch up with Sam while also picking up a few pieces) and Paris, Art Comes First is steadily dropping gems left and right, so pick up.
Influenced by Fred Perry’s legacy and a youth spent in West London, the duo let the dress code of mods, punks, skinheads and 1960s Jamaican rudeboys permeate this new collection. For the brand, the main focus of the collaboration was the joint obsession with tailoring and craftsmanship and aiming to add a contemporary or even futuristic touch to an iconic staple. Lambert and Maidoh say it best: "Tradition, inheritance: nothing is new under the sun. We study what was done before us so that it can inspire the future. It's the 360 circle of creativity."
The result is a strong series of customised polo shirts, a reversible tartan-lined bomber, an embroidered zipper track jacket, tennis shoes, accessories and a workwear oxford shirt. Until the collection’s launch on Friday, you can enjoy a short clip introducing the collection featuring friend of ACF, the great American drummer Gary Powell of The Libertines.
To get in the full swing of things, you can also listen to Shaka’s Fred Perry playlist here and Sam's playlist for the brand here. And if you suddenly feel the touch of the muse, you can always send your ACF-inspired artwork to tumblr@artcomesfirst.com.
