We hereby submit ‘Diet’ by rising star Shamir as the first best song of 2021. Yes, it’s been out since last year, but now the video dropped, pleasantly balancing satisfyingly refined aesthetics, styling and landscapes with a calm and collected focus on the raw lyrics, speaking of just how far love and desire will take you: beyond your own skin, hungering to explore and hang on to the body of the other. The guitar licks are poppy with a ragged edge of grunge and Shamir’s voice casually delivers what feels like truth. So good.
