If you’re in need of another excuse to go eat too many pastries and peruse cute holiday market stalls, now’s the time to schedule that Vienna weekend getaway. Dirk Van Saene - whom you know as one of Belgium's designer greats/Antwerp Six legends as well as being an acclaimed painter, ceramist and creator of the rug of your waking dreams - is housing a new expo of ceramic sculptures in Vienna’s SONG SONG Gallery (part of the SONG concept store) until December 23 and it looks so good.
The expo is simply dubbed “Ceramics” and introduces us to a most wondrous gang of figures emerging from classic vases or perched on a pedestal. We're spotting a few potential references to Hole and Kylie Minogue lyrics as well as an Edie Beale quote in these amazing sculpture titles: “I want to be the girl with the most cake!”, “My days of pleasing men are over!”, “Someday you will ache like I ache”, “Be my angel!” and “I can’t get you out of my head”.
Because you deserve it, here’s a nice picture of Dirk Van Saene with longtime partner Walter Van Beirendonck and Myung-il Song, the founder of SONG, at the expo opening.
