Marina Yee Presents New Micro-Collection & Expo in Tokyo

Marina Yee will always retain icon status as one of the original Antwerp Six. The noted Belgian-Chinese designer went her own way in 1988 and presented her last official collection in 2005. Yee chose to focus on passing on her accrued wisdom by lecturing at KABK The Hague and KASK School of Arts Ghent while exploring art, interior and costume design. Now, 13 years since that last Paris Fashion Week presentation, she outwardly returns with a self-described 'micro-collection' and exposition at Shibuya concept store Laila Tokio. The show is called 'M.Y. project' and features 3 new coats and 2 shirts plus a selection of curated art and a few vintage pieces.

The collaboration came about through the purchase of vintage Marina Yee items by the store. Talks ensued and now Yee will be presenting a select few items as a reaction to mass-consumption, the fashion industry's pollution and the frantic life cycle of modern-day clothing. Marina Yee has always been known to craft beauty from discarded or second-hand items and these pieces are meant to last throughout the decade(s). Given the absolute rarity of these new designs, that shouldn't be any issue. Don't miss out, should you find yourself in Tokyo at the right time.
