This is the guy who produced a large chunk of the Gorillaz’ “Humanz” album. He worked with Kanye ('remember ‘Mercy’?). He worked with Pusha T (remember ‘Nosetalgia’?). And this is him caring for his daughter and dancing around being happy in the present, despite being part of a haunting historical legacy highlighted by Dr Khalid Muhammad in the intro of “Do It Properly”.
From the press release:
The Twilite Tone: “I repurposed the sound byte as a call and response that speaks in past tense, reminding me that I have been brought to a place where I have taken my ‘name, reputation, language, religion, culture, god’ and even ‘mind’ away, so I can come to a new place, space and time.”
Directed by Christine Ciszczon.
From ‘The Clearing’, out soon on Stones Throw.
