Bahati Simoens is ready to draw back the curtains on her first solo exhibition in Belgium. A self-taught artist, Simoens has garnered notice with her figurative, brightly-hued and tender paintings and artworks centring Black bodies potently taking up space. This solo expo, ‘Jasmine, Like Summer’ was fully self-created in tandem with talented creative consultant and producer Leen Kaneza Van Reusel. All pieces were either inspired by or created in South Africa and embody the artist’s longing for home, the beauty of Jozi (Johannesburg) when spring eases into summer as well hopeful reflections on better days ahead.
The show is on for ten days only, so flutter into Antwerp to witness it in person. It’s one of those debuts you’re going to look back on later, rightfully preening yourself about your presence.
