FAM: That's wild.
DONALD: It's crazy.
FAM: Like I said, sometimes you just can't explain things.
Let's not try to explain Donald Glover's "Clapping for the Wrong Reasons". The dream-like structure of the short film allows you to take from it what you want. Let's just do that. I'm taking away two things:
1. Damn, Topanga is looking great!
2. These lyrics by Flying Lotus, just before the Freudian gold tooth moment (you'll see):
"Investing time on writing lies, slightly truth without a clue I'm at my highest self, pissing off the roofs of drunken goofs"
Don't know why that last one rang true to me at this particular time. Like the fam said: sometimes you can't explain things.

Directed by Hiro Murai, who you might know from this Ron Mueck-inspired video for St Vincent. (The current Ron Mueck exhibit in Paris was one of the most mindblowing art experiences of my life. It's on until the 26th of September. Go see it if you can.)
