For the video for 'Y.A.L.A.', M.I.A. collaborated with U.K.'s iconic i-D Magazine and Kenzo. The new album is growing on me. I loved the beats, but wasn't all that crazy about the lyrics ("My baby I amore/ My mommy I adore"). But after a few listens, it's starting to feel like I've been taking her for granted. It's pretty awesome that someone who actually has something to say can still be so huge these days, and even something as silly as a 'Yolo' reference still has enough layers to it to keep it interesting. (Yolo: you only live once, Yala: you always live again = a reference to Karma and reincarnation as a universal moral force towards spiritual growth + "Yalla" roughly means "hurry up, I'm tired of waiting".)
