London-based designer Craig Green will be the next and only guest designer at the famed biannual Florence menswear tradeshow Pitti Uomo. He’ll be showing his SS19 collection exclusively at Pitti on June 14, eschewing his London Fashion Week slot for the season. Despite having only been in business since 2012, Green has already made a remarkable stamp on the industry – not in the least via perfect-fit endorsements by way of Rih, Pusha T, Marilyn Manson and Kendrick. With this new Pitti appointment, Green follows in the lofty footsteps of mainstay names like Raf Simons, J.W. Anderson and Virgil Abloh.
After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2012 and debuting at London Fashion Week’s Fashion East for AW13 with those instantly-iconic driftwood headpieces (becoming a much-anticipated fixture ever since), Green has leapt from strength to strength. He started out as a Walter Van Beirendonck intern (the common mark of many greats) and went on to take home the Best British Menswear Designer plaque at the 2017 British Fashion Awards. His quilted garments, evoking contact sport uniforms, are instantly recognisable while his shows are some of the few menswear conceptualist marvels out there today – his AW18 tent-like constructions immediately spring to mind. The time is right for a little highlight reel, I’d say.
