The Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece, is ready to drop the velvet rope for the exhibition “George Condo at Cycladic”. Curated by Greek art historian Atalanti Martinou, this will be the first major solo museum exhibit of American artist George Condo in Greece. As from June 8, if you're a local or in Athens on holidays you can catch various paintings, drawings and Condo sculptures created during the last 20 years of his career.
You know George Condo's unmistakable, monstrous touch from your fave Kanye album art but the artist goes back to a pivotal moment in time where he revived American art in the 80s, alongside the greats like Basquiat and Warhol. George Condo still is one of the most significant American contemporary visual artists alive, with work spanning over 40 years.
The exhibition won't be a retrospective per se, rather a unique collection of some of Condo's best work focusing on the human figure. A catalogue will also be published for the occasion.
