To celebrate the birthday of acclaimed author James Baldwin, Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins (see: 'Moonlight') just dropped the emotional teaser trailer for his newest film: "If Beale Street Could Talk". The story is based on Baldwin's 1974 novel of the same name, about a young pregnant woman in Harlem, trying to clear the name of her wrongly incarcerated fiancé.
You can hear James Baldwin's voice hovering just above the powerful scenes:
“When I was growing up, I was trying to make a connection between the life I saw and the life I lived.”
Kiki Layne takes the lead alongside Stephan James, and the trailer also shows Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry. The film is expected to have a Fall release date soon.
