Burna Boy Exposes the Colonial History of Nigeria in "Another Story"

Burna Boy Exposes the Colonial History of Nigeria in "Another Story"

Burna Boy mounts a history lesson on the eve of Nigeria’s Independence Day, going back to the business deals that were to become the foundation of the country. Aside from being a absolute bop, the annotated lyrics of “Another Story” are well worth a read-through. Did you know Nigeria has its origins in a company called Niger, which is still around today under Unilever (a company that has its own deep-seated roots in colonialism, including a slavery deal involving the Belgian Congo)? Yep. It’s a sad fact that most people are kept blind to the history of their own country (this includes me) and have to stumble upon it in a pop song. Give that ‘African Giant’ album a listen if you haven’t already.
