When the masterminds behind DEEWEE/Soulwax/2manydjs and Ill-Studio collide, you sit up and pay attention. It’s praxis! With ‘Incomplete Inventory’, the long-time collaborators are launching a new book and Paris-based exhibition exploring the idea of modernity in music. The book contains over 300 photographs featuring the vast and fabled collection of digital and analogue music machines gathered and curated by Grammy-nominated artists (we would be leading every entrance and announcement with this) and DEEWEE founders David & Stephen Dewaele over the past 3 decades. The expo opening ceremony and book launch event will take place at ‘La Cité’ Gallery in Paris from Friday December 13 (6 to 9PM) and is set to run until January 24 2020.
The selection of tech photographed for the expo and book was based on subjectivity, rather than intrinsic or historic value. The creators kindly invite you to look at the details and reflect on the beauty and design of these commodities, contemplating the impact they’ve had on contemporary life and music. For added background: Thomas Subreville and Leonard Vernhet of Ill-Studio just launched a new experimental brand-project called GENERAL_INDEX, a ‘shape-shifting encyclopedia focusing on factual information from all of human knowledge gathered into a corpus of both physical and conceptual ideas’. This release is their first editorial project. It’s an entry pass to a gearhead’s Narnia, nothing less.
The ‘Incomplete Inventory’ book launches Friday December 13 2019 - sale information & pricing to be announced. (Keep an eye on the GENERAL_INDEX shop & DEEWEE online store.)
