The gold standard of graduation shows worldwide is upon us!
On June 7 and 8 the students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp Fashion Department will once more present the fruits of their hard work and dedication during the multi-hour-whirlwind-extravaganza that will be SHOW2019.
After last year’s highlight, when KNOTORYUS got added to the International Master’s Jury -which also included Demna Gvasalia-, provided all the words and interviews for the Academy’s immediately sold out ‘Our Master’ magazine, which was filled to the brim with images made by our duo of friends the incomparable photographer and Director of Photography Nicolas Karakatsanis and Director Leonardo Van Dijl, we are looking forward to what the cream of the young Antwerp crop will be serving us on the runway.
For the past 3 decades the revered institution has been catapulting fresh and innovative talent into the stratosphere. From current Headmaster Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, Marina Yee, Ann Demeulemeester and Martin Margiela over Haider Ackermann, A.F. Vandevorst, Veronique Branquinho to Kris Van Assche, Tim Coppens, Glenn Martens, Demna Gvasalia and the most recent appointment of 2017-graduate Rushemy Botter (together with Lisi Herrebrugh) at the helm of Nina Ricci, the Antwerp Fashion Department through its teachers and alumni continuously shapes and shifts fashion as we know it.
SHOW2019 provides the unique chance to witness history in the making and as this will be the 11th edition we’ll be attending, we can attest that not one “SHOW” has been like another. Add to this that present-day students like Brandon Wen (who won the first ‘Challenge The Fabric Award’ organised by the Swedish Fashion Council worth € 30.000 and whose work is featured on this year’s poster designed by the great Paul Boudens) and Sensen Lii (who was courted by British Vogue during his 2nd (!) year and whose immensely exciting creations have been creating a buzz within pop culture) will be revealing new work and you know that this edition is not to be missed.
Anyone wanting to view the Masters’ installations up-close will get a chance on Saturday June 8thduring EXPO2019: a unique opportunity to see the 13 Master students’ installations carrying their graduate collections and even get some explanation from the designers themselves.
Get your tickets for SHOW2019 before it’s sold out and we’ll see you there.
