Watching FKA Twigs sword-fighting is, in itself, seriously satisfying. The video for ‘sad day’ by director Hiro Murai (watched ‘Atlanta’? Remember ‘This Is America’? Or ‘Grief’ by Earl Sweatshirt? Yeah, that guy/genius.) starts out deepening that thrill by adding wushu fight scene tropes like floaty feet rooftop chases and ritualistic body shapes. Then it takes a turn and switches to a melancholic, twisted coda that makes the whole video hard to shake. Mesmerising from beginning to end.
