The first days of a breakup are always weird. Suddenly you’re alone, wondering how much of yourself you need to figure out again, trying on your clothes in new combinations to see if they still look and feel like you, listening to breakup songs for clues or emotional templates to ooze into, escaping the formlessness of your time in limbo. Steve Lacy’s ‘Helmet’ has all the makings of a classic breakup song and the video is a simple and elegant visualisation of a loneliness that was deliberate but still feels kinda sad.
