Even though it’s spiritually more sensible to expect nothing and pay attention to whatever comes your way, I can’t help having high expectations for the upcoming Amen Dunes album. There’s the title: ‘Death Jokes’, which is an instant ‘yes’ for me. And there’s this snippet in the press release: "To learn the piano, Damon hired the first teacher his local shop recommended, a psychic medium named Jonichi who had studied with Nadia Boulanger, a preeminent French conductor and music teacher who left lasting influences on everyone from Igor Stravinsky to Quincy Jones.” Again: hard yes. Lead single “Purple Land” is an enigma, covered in question marks, wrapped in mystery. Like most days in life, I have no idea what it means, but it’s growing on me.
