There’s limited edition and then there’s super limited edition. With only one piece per size available, the newly launched Honest By Y/Project collaboration is set to become the stuff of fashion lore. Honest By founder Bruno Pieters has tapped into the designer collaboration concept with unsurpassed integrity for years now, and this collection with the highly talented Glenn Martens of Y/Project - whom Pieters has been a mentor of for many years - has upped the ante no end.
The collection available now consists of a double shirt, trench coat with standing shoulder panel, an elongated shoulder panel top, black skirt with detachable leg piece and the insanely stunning black version of the Y/project long sleeve split jersey dress. All of these pieces are based on spring or autumn '17 Y/Project designs and are seasonless as well as agender.
Prices range from €297 to €1323 for the coat, which is a steep curve but because Honest By is based on complete transparency, each item comes with a full price calculation on top of a list of all materials and their sourcing. In the calculation, you’ll discover that most of the garment’s costs are needed to sustain the operational, research, design and retailing costs of both parties. It boggles the mind each time the amount of different pieces need puzzling together to make a single dress, but that kind of mental adjustment is exactly what we need to value the true cost of clothing.
As long as we’re being honest, we’re basically looking forward to an Honest By everything at this point. Honest by Versace, Honest By Ikea, Honest By Rei Kawakubo. Clearly, Bruno Pieters is at the source of a cultural shift and it’s quite thrilling.
