Coming Up: "Catwalking" By Alexander Fury & "Fashion Together"

SHOWstudio has strewn countless gems our way over the years and now two of the house’s all-stars are here to dish out more. Former SHOWstudio fashion director and current chief fashion correspondent of T: The New York Times Style Magazine Alexander Fury as well as writer, curator and SHOWstudio editor-at-large Lou Stoppard have just announced the official arrival of their new books, coming this autumn.

“Catwalking: Photographs by Chris Moore” is a dedication of essays written by Alexander Fury about the incredible career of catwalk legend photographer Chris Moore, launching November 6. This is the second book released by Alexander Fury this year, as “Dior Catwalk: The Complete Collections” has only just been dispatched to coffee tables worldwide.

Lou Stoppard, whose hit expo “North” is coming to London soon, penned a volume of 18 conversations going deep with fashion’s biggest wonder pairs about the depths and intricacies of working together. “Fashion Together: Fashion’s Most Extraordinary Duos on the Art of Collaboration” will be launched on October 17. Is Halloween gifting a thing?

CATWALKING: PHOTOGRAPHS BY CHRIS MOORE

Fashion has a true treasure in Alexander Fury, whose history-lined mind has produced the most stirring tales and reports in fashion of the past years, and will undoubtedly never cease to do so. You can read our last talk with this industry great from the KNOTORYUS archive. Alexander Fury’s newest book is dedicated to a name that few might be familiar with, but one that industry savants idolise. Chris Moore has photographed every truly great runway show of the last six decades, because he was there for each one. He started in 1967 and hasn’t missed a season since.

This book, named after the photographer’s comprehensive website archive, is the only edit of Chris Moore’s entire catalogue, providing a fascinating look at how catwalk culture has changed over the last century. In the 496-page tome, 400 of Moore’s images are alternated by Alexander Fury’s essays, based on comprehensive interviews with Chris Moore himself, covering everything from the last show by Coco Chanel to John Galliano’s graduation. It delves into the era of real supermodels and recalls unforgettable show moments that made history. It’s destined to weighten the shelves of fashion history devotees.

FASHION TOGETHER: FASHION’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY DUOS ON THE ART OF COLLABORATION

Though single creators are often the focal point of the runway universe, it’s the unique partnerships and collaborations that prop up the best of the industry. To me, little is more interesting than parsing the unique codes and idiosyncrasies two people develop when they get eachother on a molecular level. The madhouse of a creative industry is really anchored by the counterbalance provided by the figures we don’t always know that much about. The highly accomplished Lou Stoppard provides revealing talks of inspiration and advice as well as rare photographs, handwritten notes and editorials in this new book. Because fashion is better when two become one. What would McQueen have looked like without Blow? Or Vinoodh without Inez? Don’t even try to imagine.

The pairs featured are greats like Rick Owens and Michele Lamy, Nick Knight and Daphne Guinness, Riccardo Tisci and Mariacarla Boscono, Jonathan Anderson and Benjamin Bruno, Shaun Leane on Alexander McQueen, Kim Jones and Alister Mackie, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Gareth Pugh and Ruth Hogben, Philip Treacy on Isabella Blow, Marc Jacobs and Katie Grand, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Thom Browne and Stephen Jones, Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley, Iris Van Herpen and Philip Beesley, and the incredible Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler.

Alexander Fury’s “Catwalking: Photographs by Chris Moore” is available for pre-order now. The book will be published by Laurence King and available for purchase on November 6.

Lou Stoppard’s “Fashion Together: Fashion’s Most Extraordinary Duos on the Art of Collaboration”, foreword by Andrew Bolton, is available for pre-order now. The book will by published by Rizzoli on October 17.
