I was lucky enough to catch Kelsey Lu live at AB in Brussels, as she was one of the support acts (alternating with our own Charlotte Adigéry) during Neneh Cherry’s ‘Broken Politics’ tour. And what I saw was a mesmerising performance by a truly unique artist with a voice like no other.
Today, Lu (the hashtag #dontcallmekelsey is a favoured one on her IG) dropped a video for ‘Foreign Car’ a track from her debut album ‘Blood’. And before everyone starts screaming “Solange” and “Apesh*t“, firstly: everyone has a mood board and secondly: videos are not made by one artist. Frequent Solange collaborator Ib Kamara was the head stylist on this shoot and Nicolai Nierman, the very talented cinematographer on this video was 2nd camera unit the night The Carters took the Louvre. We have to keep building on the greatness of our peers and take it even further. That way everyone can take a breather now and again.
The scene where Lu is “car-washing” dude is amazing.
And I bow down to all these hair looks designed by Sara Mathiasson.
