One last bull hop around the rodeo, folks! (Was that a correct rodeo reference? My outdoorsy cattle-related Americana knowledge is limited to what I’ve picked up obsessing over Tom Ford’s Santa Fe ranch listing.) Anyway, the end of 2016 draws nigh and in order to get your spirits brimful before the holiday relatives relay race, I present you with one last Things To Be Here For from me this year! (If you need yours truly, I'll be blissfully chaise longue-ing it Mariah-style for the next two weeks.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-qHmXbkayw Solange on Jimmy Fallon Grammy-nominated recording artist (once more for the people in the cheap seats!) Solange killed it on Jimmy Fallon last night. She wore custom interconnected Tim White x Mama Tina (if you're not following her on Instagram, wyd), created her own staging and did all of us and Black Twitter so proud with a "Rise" and "Weary" medley.
FKA Twigs — Soundtrack 7 FKA Twigs dropped the short film ‘Soundtrack 7’ online, which depicts dance pieces she created while in residency at Manchester’s Old Granada Studios. It’s an entrancing watch and the choreo inspo is amazing and real. Don’t be too surprised if your dance teacher has you busting interpretative moves in your undies under strobe lights this week. The FKA Twigs website has also been completely overhauled and now features a great overview of previous projects.
The new emoji update Okay so they murdered the fire emoji with ios 10.2 but I celebrate the arrival of things like bacon strips, the ‘shrug’, the female astronaut and my current fave: the black heart. I wish Kim was online to celebrate these new gems with us. She’d be all about the peach update. Send me the little clown though and I’m calling the police.
The Pengest Munch The Chicken Connoisseur is the best thing out of London this week. This young critic goes around sampling chicken shops around town, avoiding big name chains, and labeling what he tastes as peng if it’s any good. “The chips were all pretty uniform in their rigidity. The breading mad flavoursome. Boss man did well. It was peng: a four point six.” Who knew we needed this in our lives but here we are on this day. Go forth and prosper, Chicken Connoisseur.
A Very Big Freedia Christmazz Honestly you just have to listen to this back to front because where do I even begin. Add this to the very end of the family Christmas playlist, when the parents are fast asleep on the couch, and just go in with your siblings and cousins.
The Barack Obama Netflix movie The “Barry” biopic was announced in March and it’ll be released today (16/12) internationally. Portrayed by Australian actor Devon Terrell, the film covers Obama’s early years as a student at Columbia. I don’t know how good this will be but we need all the Obama we can get right now, so I’ll be tuning in.
Chance The Rapper bath time playlist I don’t even own a tub but Chance The Rapper’s self-care bath time playlist titled ‘YUP’ has come at exactly the right time. It’s got Solange, Bon Iver, Gucci Mane, Frank Ocean, a cover of ‘Same Drugs’, D.R.A.M. and Donny Hathaway and Chance even showed us how he does bath time on Instagram and I may never recover. If you want to go all the way, you could even light one of Shonda Rhimes’ new candles while you’re enjoying your deep soak. Let me take this duct tape to my shower cabin and create a bath real quick.
Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 Gucci just unveiled their latest pre-fall collection and it’s a trip. The collection consists of 86 (!) looks so obviously Alessandro and his team don’t ever even sleep. It pairs rainbow-hued tiger tassle ponchos with sequin alien motherships with velvet and satin bows, headwraps, pineapple Pop Specs (?) and chinoiserie boots. It’s doing the absolute most but I just really enjoy seeing someone not holding back whatsoever when their time has come to step out of the wings, in theatre as in fashion.
