Fabled artist, writer & Sonic Youth icon Kim Gordon is ready to cloak you in her latest creative outpouring. Working with Swedish fashion retailer & Other Stories, a collaborative collection of 18 pieces is set to drop August 31. The pieces are all made from biological cotton or silk and adorned with original artwork by Kim Gordon painted on items from scarves to hoodies.
When & Other Stories opened up a design atelier in L.A., the opportunity presented itself for the brand to work with Kim Gordon, a native New Yorker but now a Los Feliz resident. The collection was built around a series of evocative words, from “Her” to “The Other”, “They”, “Morning Mirror” or “The Shadow”. The dark colour palette and streaks of silver have echoes of rock star, but one that doesn’t have to prove anything anymore.
The pieces were first hand-painted with metallic ink on rice paper by Kim Gordon and then screen-printed on a series of basic garments for a more authentic and artisanal effect. The prints are abstract and grew from the concept of the word “Her”. Black and white were used as a basic colour scheme, then Gordon added a soft pink to balance the artwork out. The collaboration turned into a family affair, with daughter Coco Gordon Moore and family dog Syd the Cavalier King Charles giving face for the lookbook.
This is just one of those collaborations many people can connect to and anyone can wear whether it’s because you see something in the abstractness of it all, because you’re a raving Kim Gordon fan or just because that “Her” necklace feels kind of Tamar Braxton and makes you go ‘me’.
The collection will launch August 31 in & Other Stories Antwerp as well as online. Prices range from €25 for accessories to €69 for the hoodies.
