2016, the last time a full Sigur Rós album shimmered into existence, was not the greatest year for humanity. And it seems the Icelandic not-so-hopefuls haven't seen a happy upward trend in their emotional graphs since, either. The first video for the new album is directed by the legendary Johan Renck and it’s basically a ten-minute sweeping drone shot, revealing a mass of dead bodies sprawled over a beige barren rock. All of nature is dead. The air is dead. All the people are naked and dead. The planet has become a blood rock (the translation of the title ‘Blóðberg') but even the blood has dried to dust and the rock is also a cliff.
Cue the violins and settle in. We’re here for a sad time and a long time.
But … when the voice soars around six minutes in, you’ll soar with it.
